Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise is a national charity founded in 1963 to forge links between schools and industry.  Its mission is to inspire young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.  It is business-led and funded mainly by Charitable Trusts and Government.

There are 6 modules and J4 (Year 6) are studying the module on “Our City”.  This involves them in exploring the main features of a city.  They have learnt that the skills of workers in key industries are vital in determining the character and life of a city and to recognise that interdependence between business is essential for the free flow of money within a city.

Some of the children’s activities have been to create a town using model buildings. During these sessions they explore the ways in which planning issues are complicated and decisions are not easy.  The also have an opportunity  to set up their own restaurant in groups.

This is a lively and interesting way to introduce the children to commerce and industry. It is truly an activity that all involved enjoy, both through the challenges presented to them and the opportunities created for teamwork and collaboration.
